Your 2026 Guide to 4th of July in Central Massachusetts

Parades, fireworks, family fests, and free concerts; all right in your backyard.

The 4th of July is one of the best times to be in Central Massachusetts. There's something really special about celebrating with your community; grabbing a spot on the lawn, watching the sky light up, and just being outside with your neighbors.

Whether you're a longtime local or you've recently moved to the area, here's everything happening this year from June 26 through July 6. There's a lot going on, so bookmark this page and check back!

June 26: The Celebrations Start Early This Year

Two great options the Thursday before the holiday weekend:

Worcester Bravehearts Post-Game Fireworks June 26 · Polar Park, Worcester

Catch a Bravehearts game and stay for fireworks after. A fun way to kick off the holiday stretch with the whole family.

Westborough Commons Fireworks June 26 at 9:15PM · Westborough Common

A classic town common fireworks show: easy, low-key, and right in the heart of Westborough.

June 27: Sutton's Full Day Celebration

Sutton Celebration June 27 · Sutton Common

Sutton goes all-out this year with a full day of events:

  • 10AM: Parade

  • During the day: Live music & food festival

  • Dusk: Fireworks at Sutton Common

This is exactly the kind of small-town celebration that makes Central Mass so special. Well worth the trip.

June 30: Auburn's Full-Day Celebration

Auburn Celebration & Fireworks June 30 · Pappas Recreation Complex, 203 Pakachoag St., Auburn

Auburn puts on one of the best community events in the region, a full evening with something for everyone:

  • 5PM: Festivities begin: food trucks, vendors & games

  • 7PM: Live music

  • 9:30PM: Fireworks

A great option if you want to avoid the July 4th crowds without missing out on the full experience.

July 2: Worcester's Big Night

City of Worcester Independence Day Celebration July 2 at 9:30PM · Cristoforo Colombo Park, 180 Shrewsbury St., Worcester

One of the biggest events in the region. Expect afternoon entertainment from XLO 104.5 FM, food vendors, bounce houses, sponsor tables, and a spectacular fireworks show over the park. Come early and make a full night of it.

Webster Lake Fireworks July 2 at 9PM · Webster Lake Memorial Beach, Webster

Fireworks over the water, a beautiful backdrop and a great crowd every year.

Franklin Fireworks July 2 at 10PM · Franklin High School, 218 Oak St., Franklin

July 3: Free Concert + Fireworks in Worcester

Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra Patriotic Pops Concert: FREE July 3 at 7:45PM · Institute Park, Worcester

This one is seriously underrated. A free outdoor concert by the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra, followed by fireworks. Bring a picnic blanket, a cooler, and your people. It's a perfect low-key evening before the big day.

Fitchburg Civic Days Fireworks July 3 at 9:30PM · Rollstone Hill, Fitchburg

Fitchburg shoots their fireworks from Rollstone Hill, which makes for a really unique view across the city.

July 4: The Main Event

Grafton Parade & Farmers Market July 4 at 10AM · Grafton Common

A classic New England 4th of July morning: parade through town followed by a farmers market right on the Common. A great way to start the day before the evening fireworks.

Harvard Festivities July 4 starting at 10AM · Town Common & Liberty Field, Harvard

The town of Harvard (yes, there's a Harvard, MA!) puts on a full morning celebration: bike decorating, a parade, antique cars, and more. A really charming, community-driven event that's perfect for young families.

Old Sturbridge Village Independence Day Celebration July 4–6 · Old Sturbridge Village, Sturbridge

One of my personal favorites for families. OSV brings history to life with cannon demonstrations, a parade through the village, period games, and live readings of the Declaration of Independence. It runs all three days so you can spread it out. Tickets required - check their website.

4th of July Family Fest at Polar Park (WooSox) July 4, 4:00–8:45PM · Polar Park, Worcester

The WooSox are doing it big this year. Arrive at 4PM for inflatable games, face painters, glitter tattoo artists, balloon artists, Touch-a-Truck, family dugout photos, and the WooCages experience. At 7PM, they're screening The Sandlot outdoors. Fireworks launch around 8:45PM. Tickets required.

Bellingham Fireworks July 4 at 9:30PM · Bellingham High School, 60 Blackstone St., Bellingham

July 5: The Celebrations Continue

Milford Independence Day Fireworks July 5 at 9:30PM · Plains Park, Milford (Rain date: July 10)

If July 4th is too hectic, Milford's show on the 5th is a great alternative. Plains Park is a relaxed spot with plenty of room for families.

Old Sturbridge Village Independence Day Celebration continues July 5–6 · Old Sturbridge Village, Sturbridge

A Few Practical Tips

  • Arrive early. Parking fills up fast, especially at Worcester and Polar Park.

  • Check rain dates. Several events have backup dates so follow the town's social media the day of.

  • Bring bug spray and a blanket.

  • The 26th and 30th are great alternatives if you want smaller crowds and a more relaxed vibe.

New to Central Massachusetts?

If you recently moved here or you're thinking about it, the 4th of July is a great reminder of what makes this area so special. So many towns within 30 minutes of each other, each with their own community feel and their own traditions.

I grew up here and I still love discovering events I haven't been to. That sense of community is a big part of why my clients love calling Central Mass home.

If you're exploring the area and curious about what different towns are like to live in, not just visit, I'm happy to chat. I know these neighborhoods well and I love helping people find the right fit.
